Borno: Boko Haram fighter surrenders to troops, hands over RPG, bomb
A member of the Boko Haram terrorist group surrendered to troops from the Joint Task Force North-East, known as Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in Pulka, Borno State, on Wednesday. The surrender took place around 9:20 a.m. amidst ongoing military operations aimed at countering terrorist activities in the region.
Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, confirmed the incident in a statement. He noted that the individual had previously operated in the Mandara Mountains area, a region notorious for terrorist activities along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
During the surrender, troops recovered a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launcher, an RPG bomb, and a mobile phone from the suspect. He is currently undergoing preliminary investigations and profiling according to established protocols.
Goni stated that this event exemplifies the effectiveness of sustained military pressure on terrorist networks, which has significantly restricted their movements in the area. He emphasized that the military’s ongoing efforts aim to diminish terrorist capabilities and encourage those involved in such activities to abandon violence in favor of peace.
“The Theatre Command remains committed to maintaining pressure on terrorist elements, denying them freedom of action, and fostering conditions conducive to lasting peace and stability in the North-East region,” he added.
