Troops Rescue 23 Abducted Civilians in Zamfara State

ZAMFARA STATE, Nigeria — Troops participating in Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully rescued 23 civilians who had been kidnapped and thwarted a separate kidnapping attempt in Zamfara State.

During combat patrols in the Anka Local Government Area, the military encountered terrorists on the outskirts of Wuya town and managed to secure the release of the victims. According to security sources, the group included three adult males and 20 females who had been abducted from the Gummi Local Government Area and held for approximately three weeks.

Following their rescue, the civilians are currently receiving medical support and other necessary assistance before being reunified with their families.

In a related operation in the Bungudu Local Government Area, troops acted on intelligence indicating that armed bandits were attempting to infiltrate Dankurmi to abduct residents. The military mobilized quickly and engaged the assailants in a fierce firefight.

Sources reported that the troops’ superior firepower forced the bandits to retreat without managing to abduct any civilians. Evidence of bloodstains was later found along the route taken by the attackers, suggesting that some of them may have sustained injuries during the clash.

The military has maintained a strong presence in the region and continues to conduct operations aimed at tracking down the fleeing terrorists.
