CAF Champions League: Rivers United seek fans support ahead San Pedro clash

Rivers United has called on its fans for support ahead of the second leg of the CAF Champions League first preliminary round against San Pedro of Côte d’Ivoire. The match is scheduled for Sunday, September 13, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Dubbed “The Pride of Rivers,” the Port Harcourt-based club played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the competition. Rivers United regards the Uyo venue as their second home ground, further emphasizing their connection to the area.
During a visit to the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, Barrister Christopher Green, the sole administrator of Rivers United, highlighted the importance of local support. “Uyo is our second home,” he said, affirming the team’s commitment to representing Nigeria in the continental tournament.
Green expressed the team’s ambition to advance deep into the competition. “We want to go as far as we can to ensure a Nigerian team makes it to the later stages of this competition,” he stated.
He also appealed to the local community, saying, “We know that Akwa Ibom people love sports, especially football, and we sincerely appeal to all football lovers, fans, and stakeholders to come out en masse and support Rivers United to victory on Sunday.”
A victory in this match is crucial for Rivers United’s progression to the next stage of the tournament.
