CAF Champions League: Rangers through to next round after shootout win over Sobemap

Rangers FC advanced to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after defeating Beninese club Sobemap FC 5-4 in a penalty shootout on Friday. The match, held at Stade de Kegue in Lome, concluded in a 1-1 draw, leading to a 2-2 tie on aggregate.

Rangers opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with an own goal from Sobemap. However, the Beninese side equalized with 25 minutes remaining in regulation time.

Unable to settle the match in regular time, the teams proceeded to penalties, where Rangers emerged victorious. With this win, Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu’s squad will face Algerian club MC Algers in the next round of the competition.
