Ballon d’Or: I was the chosen one – Mbappe speaks on Dembele winning before him
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe recently discussed his fellow French player Ousmane Dembele’s triumph in winning the Ballon d’Or, an accolade that has sparked interest among football fans.
Mbappe, regarded as the more prominent star during their time together at Paris Saint-Germain, acknowledged Dembele’s achievement in securing the 2025 Ballon d’Or. Dembele, who plays for Barcelona, surpassed the young talent Lamine Yamal for the prestigious award.
In an interview with L’Equipe, Mbappe stated that he does not feel envious of Dembele’s success, emphasizing the different paths they have taken in their careers. “He was always seen as a very talented player, while I was always seen as the chosen one,” he remarked.
He further added, “I reached the highest level very early in my career. His journey was different. He had injuries and difficult moments, but he has made an incredible comeback.”
