Tinubu mourns ex-PDP chair, Bamanga Tukur
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences following the death of esteemed elder statesman Bamanga Muhammad Tukur, who passed away at the age of 90.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu referred to Tukur’s passing as the conclusion of a significant chapter in Nigeria’s political and economic landscape.
Tukur, a prominent figure, had a diverse and impactful career that encompassed public administration, political leadership, and business across the African continent. President Tinubu specifically noted Tukur’s election as Governor of the old Gongola State in 1983 during Nigeria’s Second Republic.
The President highlighted Tukur’s advocacy for Africa’s economic advancement, underscoring Tukur’s commitment to enhancing intra-African trade, promoting private sector initiatives, and fostering sustainable development.
According to reports, Tukur served as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from March 2012 until January 2014.
“Alhaji Tukur was urbane, generous, and deeply committed to the principles of integrity and service valued by both the Adamawa Emirate and the nation,” President Tinubu stated. “He was a visionary who recognized Nigeria’s boundless potential. His wise counsel and fatherly guidance will be profoundly missed.”
The President extended his sympathies to Tukur’s family, the Fombina Emirate of Adamawa, and the government and residents of Adamawa State, as well as the broader political and business communities in Nigeria and Africa.
