Ryan Giggs Names Martin Ødegaard as Favorite Arsenal Player of the Season
Ryan Giggs, a legendary figure in Manchester United’s storied history, has identified Martin Ødegaard as his favorite player from Arsenal for the current season.
Ødegaard, who experienced a less fruitful campaign last season—scoring just one goal and providing six assists during Arsenal’s Premier League title run—had seen a dip in performance compared to his previous years at the Emirates Stadium. In his second and third seasons with the club, Ødegaard became known for his significant goal contribution and was recognized as Arsenal’s Player of the Season on two occasions.
This season, however, Ødegaard has rebounded strongly. He scored Arsenal’s third goal in the Community Shield and found the net against both Coventry City and Chelsea in league matches. His form continued to shine as he netted the decisive goal in the Gunners’ recent Champions League victory over Napoli. However, he played a more subdued role during Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Sunderland over the weekend.
Giggs, who captured the Premier League trophy 13 times with Manchester United, shared his thoughts on Ødegaard during an appearance on the Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel. When asked to name his favorite player in Mikel Arteta’s squad, Giggs expressed his admiration for Ødegaard.
“Odegaard at the moment,” Giggs said. “It looks like he’s controlling games, getting it off the back four, running in behind. He’s everywhere! He wins the ball back, he’s defensively very good. Yeah, he just looks strong.”
