Anambra Governor Criticized Over Release of Loan Records for Predecessor Peter Obi
Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo faced significant backlash on Wednesday following the public release of alleged loan records tied to former Governor Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Anambra State government characterized these records as details of Obi’s public debt during his tenure, revealing that his administration left behind unpaid loans, salary arrears, and pension obligations totaling approximately N127 billion.
In a statement issued by Dr. Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, the Soludo administration noted that it has already cleared about N22 billion in gratuity arrears owed to retired state and local government workers, as well as teachers.
The state government disseminated the details of the alleged debts through its official social media account on X, previously known as Twitter.
