‘The same fuel subsidy Tinubu opposed is what he wants us to celebrate’ – Actor Adeka

Nigerian actor Ray Adeka has expressed concerns regarding the supporters of President Bola Tinubu who defend the administration’s economic policies in response to widespread public dissatisfaction. In a recent online video, Adeka criticized these supporters for prioritizing the government’s reforms over the pressing issues of hardship faced by many Nigerians.
Adeka highlighted the irony of celebrating the removal of fuel subsidies, the expansion of the tax bracket, and the floating of the naira as significant achievements of the current administration. He drew attention to President Tinubu’s opposition to similar subsidy removal efforts during the 2012 Occupy Nigeria protests under former President Goodluck Jonathan. “The same fuel subsidy that Jonathan tried to remove, that Tinubu was blatantly against its removal, that’s what he wants us to celebrate,” Adeka stated.
He further contended that the expansion of the tax bracket would have adverse effects by potentially increasing the tax burden on impoverished Nigerians. Additionally, he described the floating of the naira and the other economic policies as questionable reforms.
Adeka remarked, “So anytime you attack this government and you talk about the Tinubu administration and how people are suffering, the people who support his government are quick to talk about the reforms. It’s always grammar.” His comments reflect a growing discontent among critics who feel that the government’s policies do not adequately address the economic challenges faced by ordinary citizens.
