Your lie irredeemable – Shehu tells power minister over ‘freezer is freezing’ comment
Public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has criticized Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe for remarks he made regarding electricity supply in Nigeria. Shehu took to social media on Wednesday night to contest Tegbe’s claim that some Nigerians had requested that he reduce electricity provision because their freezers were over-functioning.
Shehu described the minister’s statements as misleading and untrue, asserting that the repeated inaccuracies had become a pattern for Tegbe. “When telling barefaced lies becomes a trademark, it transmutes into pathology and hence incurable and irredeemable,” Shehu stated in his post.
The criticism followed Tegbe’s speech at the commissioning of a 3-megawatt solar hybrid power project at the University of Abuja earlier that day. During the event, Tegbe highlighted recent government initiatives that he claimed had enhanced electricity supply in various regions of the country. He noted that some areas previously without electricity for extended periods were now receiving power for up to 18 hours daily.
Tegbe further mentioned that he had received feedback from certain areas requesting a reduction in power supply, saying, “Some areas called me to say, look, I should slow down, that everything in their freezer is freezing. That is what a freezer is meant to do. Let it freeze the food that needs to be frozen.”
