Nigeria’s Falconets secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a commanding 3-0 win over England at the Bielsko-Biala Stadium on Thursday.
Tosin Rafiu opened the scoring just seven minutes into the match, making an impressive run into the box and skillfully maneuvering around a defender before finding the back of the net.
England was awarded a penalty in the 33rd minute after Rebecca Adegbemile committed a foul inside the box. However, Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Christiana Uzoma, made a crucial save, denying Rachel Maltby and preserving the Falconets’ lead.
Nigeria extended its advantage shortly after the break, with Benfica striker Janet Akekoromowei scoring in the 47th minute. Substitute Mary Mamudu capped off the victory with a goal in the 73rd minute.
The Falconets will face the winner of the Round of 16 matchup between Poland and Colombia in the quarter-finals.
