‘Tinubu’ll bring back fuel subsidy as election tricks’ – Atiku alleges
Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress, has accused President Bola Tinubu of planning to reinstate the fuel subsidy as the upcoming elections approach.
Abubakar made this assertion during a press conference on Friday at his residence in Abuja. He cautioned Nigerians against what he described as a potential deception, asserting that if re-elected, Tinubu would revert to the previous policy of removing the fuel subsidy.
President Tinubu had announced the removal of the fuel subsidy during his inauguration on May 29, 2023. Prior to this policy shift, petrol prices were below 200 naira per liter, but they have since surged to 1,430 naira per liter.
Abubakar also noted that transporters in Lagos are reportedly planning a protest, which he believes could provide Tinubu with an opportunity to temporarily restore the fuel subsidy before eliminating it again after the elections.
