A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Hon. Aminu Zang, has publicly declined his inclusion on the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council. Zang maintains his commitment to the opposition party.
Zang’s name appeared as number 254 on the list released by the APC Campaign Council’s Central Planning Committee, although he stated that he had neither been consulted nor informed prior to its publication.
In a statement clarifying his position, Zang reaffirmed his political allegiance to the PDP, specifically the Rainbow Coalition. He expressed gratitude toward those who believed he deserved a role within the committee, but clarified, “I remain an unrepentant and committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party.”
In a telephone interview, Zang reiterated his lack of consultation regarding his inclusion on the campaign council list, saying, “I’m not angry, so to speak. But if you read the statement I issued, I thanked those who felt that I was worthy of inclusion.” He added that his primary loyalty lies with the PDP, stating, “I cannot belong to the PDP and now be in the APC campaign council team. I cannot.”
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Zang noted his support for President Tinubu while emphasizing his commitment to the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik. He revealed that the PDP has not yet formed its campaign council, adding, “No, not yet. They are working on it.”
Zang also called on political stakeholders, party members, and the public to foster peace and tolerance as the election approaches. “The electoral process should be approached with maturity, mutual respect, and a strong sense of responsibility,” he stated. He encouraged all involved to seek divine guidance for a peaceful electoral process.
