Osun State Police Warn Against Planned Protest Linked to “Congress of Cultists”
The Osun State Police Command has issued a warning to individuals and groups regarding a proposed protest reportedly organized by a group calling itself the “Congress of Cultists.” The Command’s concerns stem from the group’s alleged ties to the Neo-Black Movement, commonly known as Black Axe.
In a statement released on Sunday by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Ojelabi on behalf of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura, officials noted that the police became aware of the intended protest through intelligence reports.
The police emphasized that anyone planning to disrupt public peace or engage in unlawful activities during the protest should reconsider their intentions. “Our operatives will respond decisively and appropriately to any action capable of threatening the peace and security of the State,” the statement read.
The Command urged individuals and groups with grievances to pursue legal avenues for resolution instead of resorting to violence or further escalation.
In a separate matter, the police confirmed that an investigation is underway regarding a recent homicide in the state. Authorities reported that detectives have developed promising leads, although several suspects remain at large.
The police are encouraging anyone with information related to the killing to come forward, assuring that reports will be handled confidentially. Residents were also advised to stay vigilant, remain law-abiding, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security agency.
Police Commissioner Ibrahim Zungura has called upon parents, community leaders, and religious heads to discourage youths from engaging in activities that could destabilize the state.
