Gombe fire service contains outbreak at state media corporation, N20m saved
The Federal Fire Service (FFS) in Gombe State successfully contained a fire on Saturday that threatened property valued at approximately 20 million naira at the staff quarters of the Gombe Media Corporation.
The fire ignited on September 19, 2026, in a residential building within the facility. According to a statement from the FFS Gombe Public Relations Officer, ASF Muazu-Bashir Musa, the service received an emergency call at 4:06 p.m. and dispatched a FFS 215 Multipurpose Water Tender from the ATM Fire Operation Base.
The fire truck departed the base at 4:10 p.m. and arrived at the site by 4:25 p.m., at which point firefighters commenced efforts to extinguish the flames. The statement indicated that an electrical fault is suspected to have caused the fire.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to adjacent structures. The FFS reported that while property valued at approximately 6 million naira was destroyed, an estimated 20 million naira worth of property was saved. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.
The operation was led by DSF Ali Kidams, with IF Adamu Babayo serving as the driver, supported by additional firefighters. Personnel from the FFS 256 Mega Park Fire Station, the Gombe State Fire Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps also participated in the response.
After extinguishing the fire, the team conducted an inspection of the premises to ensure no further risk was present before departing at 5:28 p.m.
The FFS commended those who promptly reported the incident, emphasizing that quick notification was crucial for the timely response from firefighters. The command encouraged residents to remain vigilant and to report fire incidents immediately. It also recommended that individuals have their electrical systems regularly inspected and maintained by qualified professionals.
