SAN DIEGO – Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi set a new milestone on Sunday, surpassing a record previously held by Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo during a Major League Soccer match against San Diego.
Messi scored a direct free kick in the 24th minute, contributing to a 2-2 draw and marking his 75th career goal from direct free kicks. This goal adds to Messi’s remarkable tally, bringing his total career goals to 930.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner becomes the fastest and youngest player to reach the 930-goal milestone, achieving the feat at 39 years and 88 days old. Ronaldo reached this landmark at the age of 40 years and 58 days over the course of 1,272 matches.
Messi accomplished his achievement in just 1,176 matches.
