Rufai Oseni Comments on Nyesom Wike’s Political Aspirations
Rufai Oseni, anchor of Arise Television’s Morning Show, has suggested that Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, is positioning himself for a bid in the 2039 presidential election. Oseni made this claim during a discussion on Monday regarding Wike’s recent conflict with several governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oseni indicated that President Bola Tinubu may hesitate to escalate the ongoing dispute, citing his political interests before the upcoming elections. He stated, “President Tinubu will never rock the boat. He will just try to give a gloomier response to settle the matter between Wike and the governors because he wants to win an election.”
The anchor expressed that Tinubu’s strategy is meant to maintain Wike’s support leading into the elections, noting that the President may still address specific concerns raised by the minister.
Looking ahead, Oseni predicted that the primary political contest involving Wike would arise after the elections, particularly concerning the future direction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He remarked, “But you see, where the real tussle will be is after elections have been won or lost,” and questioned Wike’s ability to rebuild the PDP after allegedly undermining the party.
Oseni further stated that Wike’s political maneuvers suggest he has presidential ambitions, pointing out, “He ran in the last election cycle, so all of this is strategically positioning himself for the next eight years when power will come back to the South.” He also noted that Wike’s age could be advantageous in his political calculations. “The good thing about the game he is playing is that age is on his side,” Oseni concluded.
