Lagos: Police arrest suspected cultist, recover pistol, axe, others in Ikorodu
LAGOS, Nigeria — Authorities in Lagos State have arrested a 36-year-old man identified as Muyideen Olatunbosun, who is suspected of involvement in cult activities. The arrest occurred during an intelligence-led anti-crime patrol in the Ikorodu area, where police recovered a variety of items, including a rubber pistol, an axe, alleged criminal charms, and an illicit drug commonly referred to as “Ice.”
According to a statement from the Lagos State Police Command, Olatunbosun was apprehended by police operatives while patrolling the Idi-Iroko, Ogolonto, and Agric neighborhoods of Ikorodu. This operation stemmed from credible information received by the officers during their patrol.
The police noted that the arrest exemplifies their ongoing efforts to combat cultism and other criminal activities within the state. Following his apprehension, a search of Olatunbosun yielded the aforementioned weapons and narcotics.
Olatunbosun is currently in police custody, where he is cooperating with investigators. Authorities are actively working to locate other members of his purported cult group.
The Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, praised the operatives for their attentiveness and swift action in response to actionable intelligence. He reiterated the command’s dedication to maintaining strategic operations against cultism and other criminal offenses in the region.
The police commissioner also encouraged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist law enforcement efforts, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in combating crime. Efforts to capture additional suspects associated with Olatunbosun’s group are ongoing.
