AFCON 2027Q: Mahamat appointed referee for Super Eagles-Madagascar clash

Chadian referee Alhadji Allaou Mahamat will officiate the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Madagascar’s Barea.

Mahamat, 40, is recognized as one of the top referees in Africa and has a wealth of experience in various continental competitions. His previous officiating roles include matches in the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, and the African Nations Championship.

In the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Mahamat officiated two matches involving the Super Eagles. He was the central referee when Nigeria faced Rwanda at home and also when the team played against Lesotho in South Africa. Nigeria emerged victorious in both encounters, winning 1-0 and 2-1, respectively.
