Nations League: Cristiano Ronaldo gives one condition to stop playing for Portugal
Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of the Portugal national football team, has outlined a specific condition under which he would consider stepping away from international play.
The 41-year-old forward stated that he would retire from representing Portugal if it were confirmed that the team no longer depends on his contributions. He emphasized that he still enjoys the support of both the country’s president and its football fans, which influences his decision to continue playing.
Ahead of an upcoming UEFA Nations League match against Wales, Ronaldo remarked, “If Portugal no longer want to rely on me, I can leave from today. I have no problem with that.” He added that he would engage with team officials should they indicate he is no longer needed.
“If they rely on me, I rely on them. And the Portuguese people rely on me. That’s why I continue playing for the national team,” he said. Ronaldo remains committed to his role as he prepares for the forthcoming match.
