Tipper truck crushes motorcyclist to death in Lagos
A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a tipper truck in Lagos State on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:18 p.m. at Ilasa Bus Stop, near Mile 2.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the details in a statement. The truck, identified by the license plate 19F 992FG, reportedly struck the motorcycle from behind after the driver lost control, according to a preliminary assessment of the scene.
Emergency responders arrived within approximately 15 minutes after receiving a distress call, with LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team dispatched from Cappa. Upon arrival, they found that an adult male passenger on the motorcycle had sustained fatal injuries in the collision.
“The adult male passenger lost his life as a result of the collision,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
LASEMA personnel, along with paramedics from the Lagos Response Unit, officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and police officials, took control of the scene. The victim’s body was respectfully placed in a body bag and handed over to family members who had gathered at the location.
The damaged truck and motorcycle were cleared from the roadway and transported to Ilasamaja Police Station to facilitate further investigation.
Oke-Osanyintolu reported that the emergency operation was concluded and traffic in the area had returned to normal. He extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged motorists, especially those operating large vehicles, to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations.
“The Lagos State Government remains committed to the safety of lives and property and will continue to ensure rapid emergency response across the state,” he added.
