NPFL: Sporting Lagos deserved more than draw with Ikorodu City – Buter

Sporting Lagos and Ikorodu City Play to Draw in Local Derby

Sporting Lagos technical adviser Jeffery Buter expressed disappointment following his team’s 0-0 draw with Ikorodu City in a closely contested derby at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan on Wednesday.

The match ended without goals, but Buter felt his team warranted more from the encounter. He remarked on the physical play of Ikorodu City, particularly emphasizing their aggressive defense.

“In the first phase, Ikorodu City committed numerous players forward, and they capitalized on that,” Buter noted, referencing Ikorodu’s previous performance against Rangers. “We resorted to playing long balls, which is not our usual style, in an attempt to exploit the available spaces. Credit goes to them for their rugged defense.”

Despite the stalemate, Buter maintained that Sporting Lagos was the superior side on the day. “In the overall assessment, we were still the better team and should have won if the circumstances were neutral,” he concluded.
