‘What have you ever done’ – Rio Ferdinand questions Portugal over Ronaldo
Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United star, has expressed support for Cristiano Ronaldo amid ongoing criticism directed at the Portuguese forward.
In a post on social media platform X, Ferdinand urged that Ronaldo’s illustrious career be given the respect it deserves, particularly in light of recent disparagement. His comments followed Ronaldo’s exit from the Portugal national team prior to their UEFA Nations League match against Denmark on Thursday.
“Where was Portugal before Cristiano Ronaldo? What have they ever done? Did they even qualify for tournaments? Let alone win anything,” Ferdinand said.
He further emphasized that critics often focus solely on Ronaldo’s performance in the last few years, despite the player’s continued impressive statistics at his age.
Ferdinand and Ronaldo were teammates at Manchester United, where they won both the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League during their tenure.
