Suspected phone thief dies after being run over by tipper truck in Kano

A man suspected of stealing a mobile phone died after being struck by a tipper truck while fleeing from a group of people in Kantin Kwari Market, Kano, on Friday, October 2, 2026.
The incident was detailed in a statement released by Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Company, the Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Kantin Kwari Market Affairs.
According to the statement, the unidentified man entered the market and was accused of theft, prompting a group to pursue him. The suspect reportedly discarded the stolen items as he attempted to escape.
As he fled, the man was struck by a tipper truck traveling towards Gidan Murtala. He suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities later transported his body to Nassarawa Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
