Police arrest suspected N8.410m visa fraudster in Osun

Osun State Police Arrest Man for Alleged Visa Fraud

The Osun State Police Command has arrested Ojo David Oluwasesan, a 54-year-old man, in connection with an alleged visa fraud scheme totaling N8,410,000.

In a statement released on Thursday, Police Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan, represented by spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, cautioned the public to be vigilant regarding fraudulent travel agents. The allegations suggest that Oluwasesan deceived victims by falsely claiming he could secure travel visas.

The incidents reportedly began in January 2025, when two individuals were referred to Oluwasesan by a mutual acquaintance. He purportedly presented himself as a travel agent capable of processing necessary travel documents. The victims handed over N3,600,000 for assistance in obtaining visas and tickets to Luxembourg, United Kingdom.

However, instead of fulfilling his end of the deal, Oluwasesan is said to have absconded with the funds and became unreachable thereafter. As the investigation progressed, detectives identified additional victims, leading to a total of N4,810,000 in further alleged fraud, bringing the cumulative amount to N8,410,000.

“Immediately after the report was filed, our detectives initiated an intelligence-led investigation, which resulted in the suspect’s arrest and subsequent confession,” Ojelabi noted.

Oluwasesan has since been charged and remanded at a correctional facility, awaiting further court proceedings. The police agency reiterated the importance of due diligence in selecting travel agents for visa processing and urged individuals to verify credentials to prevent falling victim to scams.
