PDP chieftain slams Tinubu’s wife for calling for US air strikes on Northern Nigeria

Kano PDP Chieftain Criticizes First Lady’s Call for U.S. Air Strikes

KANO, Nigeria — Jaffar Bello, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, has condemned First Lady Remi Tinubu for advocating U.S. air strikes in Northern Nigeria. During an interview with Trust TV on Friday, Bello remarked that Tinubu’s comments failed to address the ongoing issues in the Southeast, where he noted there are significant secessionist movements.

Bello’s criticism comes in the context of a recent bill introduced in the U.S. Congress aimed at enhancing accountability for human rights abuses in Nigeria. The proposed legislation, called the Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026, includes provisions for potential sanctions against Fulani militias and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

“The First Lady was recently in America, where she called for increased American strikes in the northern part of the country,” Bello stated. “She did not call for strikes in the Southeastern region, which is experiencing challenges related to the Indigenous People of Biafra and violence associated with separatism.”

Bello further expressed concern over the pattern of U.S. military interventions, citing that, “Wherever America has engaged in military actions over the past two decades, it has been in predominantly Islamic countries, from Somalia to Yemen, Iraq, and most recently, Iran.”
