APC polls show Tinubu will win 2027 election — Yilwatda

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s chances for re-election in the 2027 presidential election, based on the results of the party’s internal polls.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Yilwatda stated that surveys conducted across various states indicate that Tinubu is leading against potential challengers. “We have done fact-finding; we are leading. We have our own polls that give us the real statistics across the states,” he noted.

When asked directly if the polls predict a Tinubu victory, Yilwatda affirmed, “Of course!”

Yilwatda asserted that the APC remains undeterred by opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), associated with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), linked to Peter Obi. He claimed that the opposition’s failure to secure electoral victories prior to the 2027 election provides an advantage to the APC.

Comparing Tinubu to Atiku, Yilwatda characterized the current president as “far better” than his predecessor.

The APC chairman defended the administration’s economic strategies, emphasizing tax reforms that have broadened the tax base and increased government revenue, which he argued benefit the most vulnerable citizens. He also highlighted reforms in the power sector, stating that state governments now have the authority to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by rising petrol prices, Yilwatda maintained that current difficulties are temporary. “What we are passing through in Nigeria, for example, at this moment, is temporary. The increase in the cost of fuel is temporary. Nigerians believe in us,” he said.

In response to allegations that the APC protects its members from legal repercussions, Yilwatda mentioned that some members are currently involved in court proceedings and emphasized that no individual is above the law.

He also indicated that the party is in the process of reviewing its presidential campaign council list and plans to inaugurate it soon.

Yilwatda expressed openness to support for Tinubu’s re-election bid from various individuals or groups, including the Rainbow Coalition associated with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. He dismissed the “Tinubu Must Go” campaign as an effort driven by opposition that does not reflect the sentiments of the Nigerian public regarding the president.
