Taraba NLC urges workers to channel grievances through unions

The leadership of organized labor in Taraba State is urging workers to voice their complaints and grievances through their respective unions. This process aims to facilitate the submission of issues to the state councils of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) or the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for timely resolution.
Peter Jediel, the state chairman of the NLC, made this appeal on Monday, highlighting the importance of adhering to established labor structures when raising concerns related to welfare and working conditions.
“This procedure will enable labor leadership to receive, process, and address workers’ complaints through the appropriate channels, strengthening coordination between unions and state councils,” Jediel stated.
Jediel also called on workers to support Governor Agbu Kefas’s “Moving Forward” agenda. He emphasized the necessity for collaboration between the government and organized labor to build on existing achievements and establish a strong foundation for future development in Taraba State.
Acknowledging the state government’s efforts regarding workers’ welfare, Jediel noted that Governor Kefas has been responsive to demands from organized labor. Specifically, he mentioned the approval of a minimum wage of N70,000 and the commitment to pay outstanding gratuities owed to both retired and deceased workers. Additionally, measures have been implemented to enhance the welfare of employees across various state sectors.
Jediel cited the inclusion of local government staff and primary school teachers in relevant welfare programs and the regular payment of monthly salaries as key areas of focus for the state government.
He emphasized that these steps are crucial for workers’ welfare and underlined the importance of ongoing dialogue between the government and labor unions to address unresolved issues affecting employees.
However, he urged workers to remain committed to constructive dialogue and to utilize the proper union channels when issues require intervention from labor leadership.
Jediel’s appeal comes amidst ongoing concerns regarding workers’ welfare, particularly related to pensions and disputes affecting organized labor in the state. He reiterated the labor leadership’s commitment to resolving the crisis impacting the leadership structure of the pensioners’ union.
To foster unity, he encouraged workers to collaborate with their respective unions and engage with the state government on issues concerning salaries, gratuities, and other welfare matters. Jediel maintained that constructive cooperation among workers, labor unions, and the government is essential for addressing existing challenges and improving industrial relations in Taraba State.
