Wike labels rainbow coalition opponents ‘baby politicians’

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, criticized opponents of the Rainbow Coalition, labeling them as “baby” politicians during a monthly media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.

Wike emphasized that there is no contradiction in supporting President Bola Tinubu while also endorsing candidates from other political parties. He dismissed concerns that the coalition could confuse voters or undermine their loyalty to candidates running for various positions.

“Anyone who claims to overlook the significance of the Rainbow Coalition is not truly a politician,” Wike stated. “Such a person is a baby politician.”

He expressed confidence that supporting a presidential candidate does not equate to abandoning party candidates, particularly those contesting National Assembly seats. Wike cited his own involvement in the Edo State elections, where he backed the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite being a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). This collaboration, according to Wike, played a crucial role in defeating the preferred candidate of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

He highlighted that a faction of the PDP, known as the legacy group and led by the late Chief Dan Orbih, had partnered with the APC to achieve electoral success. Wike argued that without this alliance, the APC would have faced significant challenges in overcoming Obaseki’s candidate.
