Osun State Police Arrest Six Suspected Cultists in Osogbo
The Osun State Police Command reported the arrest of six suspected cultists during recent operations in Osogbo, the state capital. Law enforcement officials recovered items believed to be criminal charms, illicit drugs, and cash during the raids.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the police to address cult-related violence and other criminal acts in the region. Police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, announced the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the statement, tactical teams from the Osogbo Divisional Headquarters conducted the raids following directives from Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura.
The suspects have been identified as Ajibade Lateef, 21; Olaniyi Kabiru, 27; Ifaleke Ifedeji, 18; Tajudeen Wasiu, 35; Abideen Babatunde, 35; and Opeyemi Lukman, 18. Preliminary investigations have reportedly linked them to the Eiye Confraternity and various criminal activities centered around Mackay Junction in Osogbo.
Ojelabi emphasized the police’s commitment to continuing operations aimed at eliminating criminal elements from the area and restoring peace. “The raids will persist across identified black spots and hideouts until we can ensure lasting peace and security in Osogbo and other parts of Osun State,” he stated.
The police command is also enhancing intelligence gathering and operational tactics to identify and apprehend additional suspects involved in cultism, drug offenses, and other crimes.
The Commissioner of Police has issued a strong warning against allowing Osun State to become a refuge for cultists and drug traffickers. He urged parents, community leaders, and citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
