Accord Lagos chairman seeks clarity over Adeleke’s Tinubu campaign role

Mr. Oladele Oladeji, the Lagos State chairman of the Accord party, has requested clarification regarding the reported appointment of Governor Ademola Adeleke as the coordinator for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign in Osun State.
In a letter addressed to the national leadership of Accord on Saturday, Oladeji expressed concerns about how this appointment might affect the party’s political identity, its candidates, and its electoral prospects. He raised questions about Adeleke’s political allegiance, noting that he was elected governor on the Accord platform.
“Our letter represents a genuine expression of concern regarding the implications of Governor Adeleke’s reported role in President Tinubu’s campaign,” Oladeji stated. He emphasized that he did not intend to overstep the authority of the National Working Committee or any other official party bodies.
“A concerned party member is entitled to inquire about the direction of the party,” he added. Oladeji characterized his remarks as legitimate, driven by a desire to ensure the party’s future rather than to undermine its leadership.
He acknowledged Adeleke’s right to make independent political choices but argued that such decisions should align with the interests of Accord. As the elected governor from the party, Adeleke’s choices are significant to the party’s identity and its members.
“Accord’s independent political trajectory and the electoral prospects of its candidates necessitate a strong allegiance to the party’s goals,” Oladeji noted. He urged Adeleke to prioritize the electoral success of Accord candidates across the country, emphasizing that party members had supported his rise to the governorship.
While acknowledging that political cooperation can be valuable, Oladeji insisted that its terms, objectives, and potential outcomes must be clearly communicated to the party’s members and candidates.
“Our concern is whether the conditions and implications of such cooperation are sufficiently understood by those who carry the party’s name before the electorate,” he remarked.
Oladeji reiterated his commitment to seeking clarification from the relevant party authorities, asserting that his goal is to promote accountability and safeguard the interests of Accord and its candidates.
He called on the party’s national leadership to clarify its political direction and explain the implications of the reported arrangement to both members and the public.
“We will continue to raise our concerns respectfully and rely on verifiable facts while defending the right of party members to seek clarity regarding the future of their political platform,” he said.
