Community leader warns against politicising insecurity in Taraba

TARABA, Nigeria — King Eltopzy, a community leader in Taraba state, announced the arrest of a suspected member of an armed robbery group operating in the Shavoh and Yagai areas. The announcement was made in a statement on Tuesday, which detailed the results of a recent operation that also led to the recovery of a motorcycle allegedly stolen from Eltopzy’s residence, as well as two air conditioners reported stolen within the community.
Eltopzy emphasized the importance of continued efforts to ensure the safety of residents and protect lives and property in Shavoh and its neighboring communities. He urged residents to remain vigilant and to support security personnel in addressing local insecurity, underscoring the need for collective action to enhance community safety.
In his statement, Eltopzy condemned attempts to politicize recent security developments, asserting that security responsibilities extend beyond political affiliations. He alleged that some individuals were exploiting recent incidents to promote their political candidates instead of contributing to efforts addressing the insecurity.
“Community security is beyond politics. The safety of our people must never be sacrificed on the altar of political desperation,” he stated.
He also expressed concern regarding the spread of misinformation, encouraging residents and political actors to verify information before sharing it. “The community needs responsible dialogue, cooperation with relevant security agencies, and collective commitment to addressing security challenges,” Eltopzy added.
He called on residents to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities, urging them to allow security personnel to perform their duties professionally and lawfully. Reiterating that security remains a priority under the Taraba state government, Eltopzy urged residents to put aside political differences and work towards fostering a safer, more peaceful environment.
