Why I can’t stand Obasanjo – Sowore

Human Rights Activist Criticizes Former Nigerian President Obasanjo
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has expressed strong criticism of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, citing the impact of Obasanjo’s administration on the nation’s education system.
During an interview on the X program “Nix: Outside the Box,” Sowore stated that he could not support Obasanjo due to his negative experiences while attending university during that period. Sowore pointed to the decline of the education system, which he associates with Obasanjo’s leadership.
Obasanjo, who served as both a military Head of State and a civilian President from 1999 to 2007, is a polarizing figure in Nigerian politics. Sowore explained, “I have never been to Aso Rock before. I have never met any President in power before, not even Obasanjo.”
Sowore continued, “Obasanjo is probably one of the people I can’t even stand because of what we knew about him before we went to the university. Part of the reasons we were rushing to the university was that Ali must go, and it was during Obasanjo’s period that the education system began to suffer.”
Although Sowore has not met Obasanjo personally, he noted, “To come back to the nature of power, I don’t even know how his face looks.” The activist’s comments shed light on his enduring criticism of past administrations and their effects on Nigeria’s educational landscape.
