Ebola: NOA urges Jigawa residents to stay calm, observe preventive measures

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Jigawa State has called on residents to remain calm and adhere to preventive measures in response to reports of a confirmed Ebola virus case in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Mallam Ahmed Tijjani Ibrahim, the state director of the agency, made this appeal amid rising concerns regarding the outbreak and its potential spread. He emphasized the importance of public awareness, prompt reporting of suspected cases, and compliance with health guidelines to mitigate risks associated with the virus.

Ibrahim referenced Nigeria’s successful containment of the Ebola virus in 2014, expressing confidence in the country’s readiness to manage similar public health threats. He urged residents to practice proper personal and environmental hygiene and to avoid direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of individuals suspected to be infected.

“People should report possible exposure immediately, even if they feel well. Seek guidance before visiting a hospital if symptoms develop, avoid close contact with others, and contact public health authorities for instructions before going to a healthcare facility,” he advised.

The director also requested that residents cooperate with health officials involved in contact tracing and other preventive measures. He cautioned against the spread of rumors and unverified information that could incite unnecessary panic among the public.

Ibrahim further emphasized the importance of treating suspected patients and their families with dignity, care, and support, urging the community to avoid discrimination against them.

He concluded by highlighting the significance of collective responsibility, accurate information, and collaboration with health authorities in safeguarding communities against the disease.
