‘Nigerians deserve govt that listens’ – Ireti Kingibe demands compliance with Senate resolutions
Ireti Kingibe, the senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), emphasized the importance of responsive governance for Nigerians during a plenary session on Thursday.
Kingibe expressed her support for a motion introduced by Senator Abdul Ningi, which called for rigorous adherence to Senate resolutions. She urged the Senate leadership and committee chairs to leverage their constitutional powers to ensure that government agencies fulfill their obligations as mandated by law.
“I align myself with Senator Abdul Ningi in advocating for strict compliance with Senate resolutions,” Kingibe stated. “It is crucial that we utilize our constitutional powers to guarantee that government bodies perform their duties as per legal requirements. Where institutions fail to comply, appropriate measures must be taken in accordance with due process.”
The senator also reiterated that lawmakers have responsibilities that extend beyond legislation and budget approvals. “Our duty encompasses ensuring that decisions made in the interest of Nigerians are implemented effectively and that the concerns of our communities are addressed,” she said.
Kingibe concluded by asserting that Nigerians deserve a government that actively listens and delivers on its commitments. “I am dedicated to enhancing accountability, reinforcing the rule of law, and ensuring that the voices and needs of our people are not overlooked,” she added.
