Female MFM member knocked down, killed by careless driver in Igando lone accident

LAGOS, Nigeria — A member of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) was killed in a tragic accident at NYSC Bus Stop in Igando, Lagos, when she was struck by a Mercedes-Benz whose driver reportedly fled the scene.

The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). According to their statement, the victim was en route to a church service when the vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz C-300, veered into her path while she was using the designated pedestrian corridor, inflicting fatal injuries.

LASTMA officials reported that officers stationed in the Igando area responded quickly to distress alerts. They cordoned off the scene to prevent further accidents and managed traffic flow to ensure other road users’ safety while emergency protocols were initiated.

The agency condemned the driver’s decision to leave the scene after realizing the severity of the incident, calling it a serious violation of legal and civic responsibilities for motorists involved in collisions. The Mercedes-Benz was later recovered and removed from the roadway in cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force, Igando Division.

In a tragic twist, the deceased’s husband was already at the MFM Church for the worship service when news of the accident reached him. Church members accompanied him to the scene to pay their respects before the body was taken for necessary rites.

The police have since taken over investigations into the incident to ascertain its cause and the circumstances leading up to it. Authorities aim to pursue appropriate legal action against the driver under existing traffic and criminal laws.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, extended condolences to the bereaved family and the MFM Church community. He emphasized the incident as a painful reminder of the consequences of traffic violations and reiterated LASTMA’s commitment to road safety in Lagos.

Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and respect pedestrian rights to help prevent such tragedies in the future.
