FG Confirms One Ebola Case, Intensifies Contact Tracing

The Federal Government has confirmed that Nigeria currently has only one confirmed case of Ebola, as health authorities ramp up contact tracing and preventive measures against community transmission.

Professor Muhammad Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, announced on Friday that genomic analysis reveals the virus extracted from the index patient is closely related to a strain identified in Kenya, although the exact route of transmission remains unclear.

Health officials are actively monitoring contacts of the confirmed case, with some test results returning negative while others are still pending. Professor Pate noted that hospitals across the country are being informed about the situation, and health workers are receiving training on infection prevention, patient screening, and management of suspected cases.

He emphasized that Ebola is not airborne and is primarily spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals.

The minister urged the public to remain calm, practice good hygiene, and stay informed through official health updates as the nation intensifies its efforts to contain the virus.
