Kebbi Assembly adopts MTEF, fiscal strategy paper for 2027–2031

The Kebbi State House of Assembly has approved the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) for the period of 2027 to 2031.

The decision was made during a plenary session on Tuesday, following a report presented by the joint committee on finance and appropriation, budget monitoring, economic planning, and due process.

Committee chairman Adamu Muhammad Birnin Yauri stated that the framework aims to guide the preparation of annual budgets and align them with the state’s development goals. He emphasized that the documents prioritize community-focused programs while seeking to enhance both existing and potential economic opportunities.

Birnin Yauri also indicated that the framework adheres to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, along with other relevant state laws governing public finance, fiscal responsibility, procurement, and auditing. He noted that it takes into account global economic indicators and the current state of Nigeria’s economy, ensuring it reflects both domestic and international realities.

The projections outlined in the documents were described as realistic, given the current economic climate and efforts to boost internally generated revenue.

He urged fellow lawmakers to approve the framework as a basis for ensuring fiscal sustainability and promoting economic growth. The motion for adoption was moved by Muhammad Garba Bena and seconded by Muhammad Buhari Aleiro.

Following a voice vote led by Speaker Salihu Maikasuwa Dangoje, the Assembly adopted the report and associated documents. The next step involves transmitting these documents to Governor Nasir Idris for his approval.
