Ebola: NCDC Assesses UATH Gwagwalada’s Readiness To Manage Cases –

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has completed a post-corrective action assessment at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) in Gwagwalada. The evaluation aimed to determine the hospital’s preparedness for managing suspected and confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

The assessment focused on key areas, including the operational status of the hospital’s Ebola treatment centre, its capacity for case management, and the sufficiency of current facilities for managing additional cases if necessary.

Involved in the assessment were several health partners, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), and representatives from Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Edo State. Their collaboration underscored the significance of partnerships among health institutions in enhancing Nigeria’s ability to respond effectively to disease outbreaks.

The NCDC reiterated its commitment to working alongside healthcare facilities and partners to ensure the sustainability of response structures, thereby improving the country’s readiness for potential Ebola cases.

This assessment is part of broader initiatives aimed at bolstering Nigeria’s health security, augmenting hospital preparedness, and enhancing the nation’s capacity to address public health emergencies. The evaluation comes at a time of increased focus on Ebola preparedness, emphasizing the need for health facilities to maintain effective treatment and infection prevention measures.
