Benue: Police arrest man over alleged defilement of 10-year-old girl

Police Arrest Suspect in Child Abuse Case in Benue State
The Benue State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man in connection with the sexual abuse of a 10-year-old girl in the Igumale district of the Ado Local Government Area.
Authorities reported the incident occurred on October 13, 2026. Following the report, the victim was taken to a medical facility for examination and appropriate care.
Cletus Nwadiogbu, the state’s Commissioner of Police, announced the arrest during a press briefing in Makurdi. He noted that investigations into the case are ongoing and assured that the suspect would face legal consequences if found guilty. Nwadiogbu also emphasized the command’s commitment to safeguarding the victim’s privacy and well-being throughout the investigation.
He identified this arrest as a significant success for the police command amid its security operations in October. In addition to the child abuse case, the police apprehended 14 suspects, recovered seven locally made firearms, and seized 16 rounds of ammunition and cartridges during this period. One suspected bandit was also neutralized.
Nwadiogbu attributed these achievements to intelligence-driven policing, rapid response to emergency calls, regular patrols, and effective cooperation with other security agencies and community stakeholders.
He urged residents to report incidents of violence, abuse, and other criminal activities promptly to the police, highlighting that timely information is crucial for effective responses and crime prevention.
