Reps urge FERMA to complete abandoned sections of Kirikiri Road in Lagos

The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to expedite the rehabilitation of Kirikiri Federal Road in the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency of Lagos State. Lawmakers cited ongoing transportation issues stemming from the road’s poor condition as a primary reason for their intervention.
In a motion sponsored by Hon. Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul, members emphasized the need for FERMA to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Berger-Suya axis and to address other sections of the road that were omitted from previous repair efforts. The call to action was reinforced by a resolution adopted by the House on October 3, 2023, concerning the urgent need to repair the deteriorating road infrastructure.
While the resolution called for immediate action, the House noted that although FERMA had undertaken repairs on the Amuwo section of the road, the areas within Ajeromi-Ifelodun remained neglected. This has resulted in significant challenges for residents, commuters, and commercial transport operators, impacting their daily activities and the movement of goods.
Legislators expressed disappointment that the initial resolution’s objectives had not been met, prompting the need for further intervention. They directed FERMA to conduct an assessment of the Kirikiri Federal Road, paying particular attention to the Berger-Suya axis, and to evaluate the quality of work completed on the previously rehabilitated sections.
FERMA was also instructed to identify any problematic portions of the road where repairs were found to be substandard and to carry out necessary corrections according to approved engineering standards.
To ensure the completion of the outstanding sections, lawmakers called on FERMA to promptly resume work in designated areas of Ajeromi-Ifelodun. The House reiterated the importance of fulfilling the goals outlined in the 2023 resolution for a sustainable solution to the road’s issues.
To monitor FERMA’s compliance with the directives, the House assigned the Committees on Works and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to oversee the implementation of the resolution.
