DUTSE, Jigawa State — The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old barber, Emmanuel Olatonok, for allegedly stabbing a 32-year-old man, Ibrahim Shago, to death following a disagreement in Dutse metropolis.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Shiisu Lawan Adam announced the arrest in a statement issued on Friday. According to Adam, the incident occurred on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at approximately 5:45 p.m. in the Rafin Sanyi area of Dutse Local Government.

Adam reported that Olatonok, who is employed as a barber at a local hotel, allegedly stabbed Shago in the neck with a knife during an argument. The suspect is also believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the altercation.

The incident led to heightened tensions in the area, prompting a gathering of angry youths who attempted to vandalize the hotel where Olatonok worked. Police operatives from the Dutse Division quickly intervened to restore order and prevent further violence or property damage.

Olatonok remains in police custody as investigations continue to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident. Adam indicated that the suspect would face charges in court following the completion of the investigation.
