Atiku’s son: ‘My support for Tinubu is personal’; pledges 10 buses

By Omeiza Ajayi, ABUJA

Abba Abubakar, the son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has announced his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, emphasizing that his decision is a personal conviction that may differ from the political views of his family.

Speaking at a press conference held by the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO) in Abuja, Abba expressed an awareness that such political choices often draw public scrutiny, stating, “I am equally conscious that my own political decision may be viewed within this context.” He reinforced that political beliefs should be regarded as matters of personal judgment and that individuals should have the freedom to make their own choices.

Abba described the formation of the HBTO as a “deliberate political choice,” asserting it is rooted in his firm belief in the direction the organization seeks to pursue. He acknowledged that while others may hold differing political opinions, he expects his own convictions to be respected.

The HBTO has been established as a political mobilization and support platform designed to unite Nigerians who are aligned with the leadership and reform agenda of Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Regarding Tinubu’s reforms, Abba admitted that they have posed challenges for many Nigerians but argued it is essential to recognize the progress and long-term benefits that these initiatives could bring. He highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which has created avenues for students to access interest-free educational loans, easing the financial burden on families seeking higher education.

Abba also praised the administration’s investments in transportation infrastructure, which, he said, have improved connectivity and bolstered economic activity throughout the nation. He noted that increased revenue allocations to state governments through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) have enhanced their capacity to fulfill financial obligations such as salaries and pensions.

As part of HBTO’s initiatives, Abba announced plans to launch a transportation support program that will initially provide 10 luxury buses in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) before expanding nationwide. “Supporting the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda must translate into meaningful actions that positively affect the everyday lives of Nigerians,” he stated.

The organization also plans to conduct a large-scale mobilization march, dubbed a “two-million-man march,” across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, beginning in Abuja.

In addressing the political landscape in the FCT, Abba confirmed the group’s collaboration with the FCT Minister, whom he identified as a key political leader in their mobilization strategy. He emphasized the importance of securing electoral victories in both the FCT and Rivers State in the upcoming elections.

Abba indicated that HBTO will engage in a significant political mobilization effort in Rivers State next week. He emphasized that the initiative is focused on establishing a disciplined and effective grassroots network capable of converting political support into electoral outcomes.

The group is determined to expand its efforts across geopolitical zones and collaborate with various political stakeholders, community leaders, and civic organizations. “We are confident in our direction, committed to our objectives, and determined to contribute to the President’s reform agenda and his re-election bid in 2027,” Abba said.
