ISWAP shura council member, top commanders fall as troops repel Borno attack

ISWAP fighters launched an attack on military troops in the region on Saturday, October 31, 2026. According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the clash resulted in the deaths of Abu Hajara, a notable member of the group’s Shura Council, and Abul Walid, a senior commander closely associated with ISWAP’s overall leader, Ba Shuwa.
Additionally, two high-ranking Arab fighters were reportedly killed during the confrontation. Makama indicated that government troops successfully repelled the assault through a combination of ground firepower and air support, inflicting significant casualties on the attackers.
Following the engagement, military personnel recovered arms, ammunition, and communication devices. This incident occurred just three days after a reported military operation in Buni Yadi, where authorities claimed that 55 terrorists, including several key commanders, had been neutralized.
