Police Arrest 26-Year-Old Man for Alleged Attempted Murder in Owerri

Imo State authorities have arrested Ifeanyi Chukwu Joseph, 26, on charges of attempting to kill his girlfriend’s 17-year-old sister in Owerri. The incident, involving the victim identified as Chiamaka Chukwuokore, occurred on November 1 at approximately 1 p.m.

According to a statement from the Imo State Police Command, Joseph allegedly threw Chukwuokore from a two-story building located on Mbonu Ejike Street in the Ikeneagbu area. The police reported that the two were involved in a confrontation before the incident took place.

Chukwuokore sustained severe injuries from the fall and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Following the incident, a crowd reportedly gathered at the scene and attempted to lynch Joseph. Police intervened, preventing any harm to the suspect and subsequently taking him into custody.

“The prompt intervention of the police operatives led to the successful rescue of the suspect, who was subsequently taken into police custody,” the police statement read.

Authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and to determine the appropriate legal actions against Joseph. Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso emphasized the commitment of the police to conduct a thorough investigation, assuring the public that justice would prevail.

Additionally, Bosso urged residents, particularly those on social media, to refrain from sharing unverified reports related to the case. He called on the community to remain calm and allow law enforcement to carry out their duties without interference.
