Sokoto govt calls for improved intelligence, technology to tackle terrorism in North-West

LAGOS, Nigeria — Ahmed Usman, the state’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration among governments, security agencies, defense manufacturers, and technology providers to combat rising threats during the Africa International Defence Exhibition 2026.

Representing Governor Ahmed Aliyu, Usman highlighted the increasing challenges posed by terrorism, banditry, and transnational organized crime. He urged African nations to bolster their capacities for addressing these security issues through increased investment in intelligence gathering, surveillance, modern communication systems, and local defense production.

“ Africa must increasingly leverage indigenous research, local manufacturing capabilities, and technological advancements to develop sustainable solutions to its security challenges, rather than depend entirely on external sources for critical defense equipment and technologies,” Usman stated.

He also underscored the importance of intelligence sharing, capacity building, and inter-agency cooperation as vital elements of effective security operations. He asserted that these components are crucial in enhancing the effectiveness of military personnel and equipment deployment.
