Bandits abduct 18, kill two in Kaduna community

Suspected bandits killed two individuals and kidnapped 18 others in Akwando village, located within the Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Wednesday.
Mr. Reuben Buhari, a former Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the late Governor Ibrahim Yakowa, confirmed the incident on his verified Facebook page. He named the kidnapped victims as Usman Galadima, Amina Ahmadu, Haske Ahmadu, Magdalene Marcus, Gloria Marcus, Lovene Ishaya, Happy Steven, Zillah Steven, Afiniki Irimiya, and Jeneth Irimiya. Other individuals reportedly taken include Laraba Irimiya, Sim Shagari, Yangal Shagari, Musa Genesis, a minor, and Miracle Genesis.
Buhari also identified the deceased as Irimiya Galadima and Benjamin Danlami.
This is not the first instance of violence in Akwando village; on April 26, 2026, nine schoolchildren were kidnapped while traveling to school in Kachia. They were released after 36 days in captivity. The village has faced multiple attacks over the years, resulting in numerous fatalities.
The recent abduction follows the release of five individuals who were kidnapped from Awon village on April 5, 2026, after spending six months in captivity. Some hostages reportedly perished during their time in captivity, and one young girl died a day after being hospitalized following her release.
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Mansur Hassan, for comments on the latest incident were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to phone calls or text messages.
