Minor dies after regaining freedom, many others abducted in Kaduna community

A 13-year-old girl, Hasana Bulus, who was held captive for seven months, has died just one day after her release in Kaduna State, Nigeria.
Hasana was abducted from her home in Awon village, located in the Kachia Local Government Area, on April 20, 2026, during an attack by armed bandits. According to Reuben Buhari, a former aide to the late Kaduna State Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, Hasana endured significant suffering while in captivity.
“Hasana was released on November 2 and taken to a hospital in Kachia, but she passed away the following day,” Buhari said.
In a separate incident, it was reported that 18 individuals, primarily women and children, were kidnapped during an attack on the Akwando community in Kachia. This attack, which occurred around 12:30 a.m. on November 4, resulted in the deaths of two men, who were members of Buhari’s extended family.
Buhari detailed the identities of those kidnapped, which include Usman Galadima, 55; Amina Ahmadu, 52; Alice Ahmadu, 45; Haske Ahmadu, 18; Magdalene Marcus, 35; and several others, including infants. The full list comprises Lovene Ishaya, 25; Happy Steven, 23; Zillah Steven, one year; Afiniki Irimiya, 30, and her one-year-old daughter, Jeneth Irimiya; along with other family members.
As the community continues to grapple with these troubling events, local authorities are urged to enhance security measures to prevent future attacks.
