Investigate hijab controversy in Nigerian law school immediately- MURIC to council of legal education

Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on the Council of Legal Education to promptly establish a panel to investigate an ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged prohibition of hijab at the Nigerian Law School.
The request was made in a statement issued on Thursday by MURIC Executive Director Professor Isiaq Akintola. The issue emerged when reports surfaced claiming that the Director General of the Nigerian law schools had verbally instructed that female Muslim students be barred from wearing hijab during examinations.
Akintola urged the council to act swiftly and emphasized the need for the investigation to be conducted fairly and transparently. He expressed concern over the actions of the Director General, alleging they undermine healthy interactions and freedom of religion within the institution.
“We urge the Council of Legal Education to establish a probe panel to investigate the hijab issue,” Akintola stated. “We also insist that the Director General recuse herself to facilitate a fair investigation.”
He further asserted that the current Director General is hindering a balanced environment for both Muslim and Christian students, especially during critical assessments such as final examinations for admission to the bar. Akintola also suggested that the Director General should resign or face termination for allegedly compromising the integrity of the Law School and revealing a biased stance against Muslim students.
