FG clarifies how beneficiaries emerge for N50,000 NERSI relief fund

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has provided details on the selection process for the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), which aims to assist vulnerable households facing increased living costs.
In a statement released on Friday, Director of Information and Public Relations, Janet Mcdickson Noah, emphasized the importance of clarifying the intervention to enhance public understanding and counter potential misinformation.
The ministry indicated that beneficiaries will be chosen from the National Social Register and verified national identity records based on criteria related to poverty and vulnerability. “The selection encompasses all six geopolitical zones of the country. There is no application or registration required for the program, and no individual or agent can exert influence over the selection process,” the statement noted.
Each selected beneficiary will receive a grant of N50,000, which is not a loan and does not need to be repaid. Notifications will be sent to beneficiaries via SMS from authorized digital financial service providers.
The ministry advised beneficiaries to maintain the confidentiality of their Personal Identification Number (PIN), One-Time Password (OTP), and Bank Verification Number (BVN), urging them not to share this information with anyone.
For inquiries or complaints, beneficiaries are encouraged to reach out to the official NERSI helpline at 0700-022-2222. The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs reiterated its commitment to executing the intervention with transparency, accountability, and respect, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
